So I know that puppies usually have a higher respiration rate while sleeping than adult dogs, but I am wondering what is normal, and up to what age.
I'm not at work today, so I thought I would pose the question here, and perhaps the answer will help out someone else too - as I couldn't find it with the search function.
Faroh is 18 weeks old, and his resp rate while napping averages 90 - which just seems so high to me.
I'm not sure if this stays true when sleeping through the night. He has also just started snoring the past 2 days, and wakes up startled and panting.
16-20 breaths per minute is normal for an adult dog.
Are sure he is actually asleep when you're counting?
I don't think I'd be too concerned at this point though. Large breed pups grow sooo fast and breathing helps facilitate the growing process.
Yup, he's asleep. I know his breathing gets faster when he's sleeping, and I know that it is normal for puppies to breath much faster than adult dogs while sleeping - but I'm just not sure until what age.
I'm curious, but also a tad watchful of his breathing because we had a suspected kennel cough in the clinic this weekend, and he's been a bit off the past 2 days.
