I'm sorry if this is in the wrong forum, it was the most suitable area I could find.
I just purchased 2 dominant dog collars from Leerburg, and I measured 3 times before ordering just to make sure I had my measurements correct. I measured Oxz at 19.5" (so I rounded down to 19") and I measured McCaskey at 16.25" (and again rounded down to 16"). For both dogs I tightened the measuring tape as much as I dared before I thought it would tear (it's a paper tape) and Oxz's neck is shaved currently so I didn't have to worry about hair adding length. Anyway, the collars arrived today and they are both too big. :\
The 16" just slides down McCaskey's neck, but if I put it on Oxz it stays put right where it belongs, but it only yields about 1" of slack, if you could call it "slack"; I suppose it would be more accurate to say that it has 1" of "give". Is this a suitable amount of slack, or should I exchange both collars down a size or two? (For reference, the 19" collar yields 3" of slack on Oxz. And the 16" yields 3-4" of slack on McCaskey. I'm 100% sure I measured correctly, I even watched the video again to quadruple make sure.) But I suppose I didn't take into account that McCaskey has short hair (pit-mix) and doesn't have any ruff like a Malinois or GSD to help keep in place...
With the 16" on Oxz, I can get 1-2 fingers under the collar under her jaw, but I'm also wondering how much room there will be when her hair grows back in full. (Black Russian Terrier = Lots 'o Hair) Would it be better to get a 17"? I'm sorry, I'm not being very concise...side effect of being exhausted. Any help is greatly appreciated!
