Quick question... I learned to train "leave it" which included food and well, basically anything.
Is this basically the same idea as this?
I THINK food refusal is when the dog won't touch any food that doesn't come from you. Meaning if you weren't around and someone tried to entice them with food the dog wouldn't take it, regardless of the fact that you aren't there to tell the dog to leave it.

Yup. I'm not worried about food from others, just stuff that they find laying around if I'm not there to tell them to leave it.

someone correct me if im wrong.
Thanks, Wendy. That does make sense. I guess I have never really thought about training that because my dogs really won't take anything from anyone. I'll have to ponder adding this to JD's repertoire (I wish this forum had spellcheck!)
I think we are talking about 2 different things here: OB exercise Food Refusal and Poison Proofing. The first behavior requires a cue and does not occur if the command is not given. The second behavior does not require a cue and is expected to be automatic.
Poison proofing would interfere with beginning stages of tracking, I imagine.
