I use a prong collar on my dog. On a few occasions, the collar suddenly came apart. I brought my collar from Ed so I know it is high quality. Has this happen to any of my fellow board members and is there a proper way to put on the collar. I always clip it on the outside swivel ring (not both rings). Is there a possibly I am not using this collar correctly. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
I am not sure what you mean by comming off. The prong is designed to be put on and taken off by opening the collar by squeezing a set of the prongs together and opening the collar so it is no longer a circle. It is not designed to be slid over the dogs head. If it is slipping over the dogs head then it is too big. Remove a link or two so it fits better. Put it on and take it off by opening it up and putting it around the dogs neck and re-attaching the links. There is a danger in slipping the collar over the dogs head as the prongs could injure the dogs eye.

If the collar links are coming apart, then you are either not getting it all the way seated when you put it on or the links have bent a bit and need to be spread apart again.

Patsy when you hook your leash onto the pinch collar you should hook into one ring only. Usually it has a swivel at the base, but not always.
Richard mentions that if it keeps falling off, the prongs might be bent out of shape. It’s also possible that you don’t have it adjusted properly for the dog. Sometimes if the collar is too big it will fall off. If the two rings that the (conventional looking) chain go through can touch each other when it’s on the dog, it’s waaaay to big. Make it smaller by removing one or two of the prongs, then try it again.
If the two rings are can’t be pulled together with it’s on the dog, it’s sized properly.

This happens alot, esp if you've been using the same link to take the collar on/off, the prongs do bend a bit. Easy to fix w/pliers.
I do agree about fit, also. *Every* pet owner who shows up w/a prong collar has it waaaayyy too long. I think humans tend to believe that if it's bigger, it'll be more comfortable. The collar should rest snugly behind the dog's ears to be effective and safe.
I do use the same link to take off and on the collar. I even taped it so I could find it easily. I thought it was on too tight ( I can barely put my fingertip between the prong on the collar and my dog's neck. To me, the prongs look like they are sticking in his neck. Thank you all for your help.
