Kirschental is a working sheep farm that raises, breeds and uses German Shepherds to herd sheep. Karl Fuller, owner of Kirschental, is featured prominately in Leerburg's sheep herding video. He is one of the dominant competitors in the German herding competitions. It's a fascinating video. The way the shepherd and his dogs work the sheep is truely amazing. Two dogs are supposed to be able to handle several hundred sheep. I keep replaying that video. I also use it to show friends how Shepherds used to earn their keep.
Kirschental's dogs are used in the Fidelco guide dog breeding program. The lend a strong desire to work and please.
They are very good-looking dogs but are definately not a show line.
We've all weighed in on this dog already under other headings. This is the same dog that was afraid of the sleeve and trying to bite the helper under the topic of protection training, and who can't stand to be petted or examined by strangers without biting under another topic. When you put it all together, the picture is definitely one of a dog who is a fear biter and has some serious social issues. She has already stopped the bitework training, which is good. She needs to get with a good trainer and get some help, cuz this dog is a liability.
BTW, Kirschental is definitely a show kennel, quite a successful one at that. Yes, they herd, but their dogs are show dogs who herd, not vice versa. You don't produce a double sieger by accident - Eiko v. Kirchental, plus many many more successful show dogs.
