Well, I'm pretty sure that people keep birds as pets, and a chicken would fit better as a "bird" than a "hamster". They likely also have an "other" category.
And perhaps Barbara considers her chickens pets!
Yeah, but you know "ham and eggs" .... see the connection? I mean, it's a toadally understandable mistake.

I have one chicken out of 24 which has earned a "lifetime membership" to the Schuler mini, micro farm. The rest better keep producing eggs or will find themselves alongside some ham on a breakfast plate or more likely, in a dog's dinner dish. Actually, several of these gals are destined to be leaving us soon as the cost of feed continues to rise and I'm getting tired of writing checks for chicken mash!!
Didn't mean to derail Kelly's thread at all...thought it might evolve into a "stupid peoples" post!
Someone who is capable of "mailing" a puppy in a box is beyond stupid and hopefully will be charged criminally. Personally, I thing the son should box up his momma and ship her to, well, I could think of numerous approprite places...
I wonder if we'll see a lawsuit against the postal service now for not having any sign displaying to not mail live animals in a priority mail box without air holes (or for not putting them on the banned list of items)?
I stopped being surprised at human stupidity years ago.

One could try, but when you need to claim the contents of the package as a "toy robot", it's obvious you knew live animals wouldn't be allowed.
