No worries I did not take offense (I've only been a dog owner for about 11 months and have made alot of stupid mistakes and asked alot of stupid questions I'm here to learn and become a better dog owner and trainer.)
P.S. stay warm up there I have lived in Minneapolis and Madison so I know how those long cold winters can be

Hi Brent -I worked as a vet tech in the KC area a hundred years ago but remembered how many vet pharma companies and schools they have in that area. So I checked in with my sis who is totally dialed in to the dog sport scene in the area and she said everyone has raved about these guys: http://www.canineperformancemed.com/index.html
I wish you and your parents the best of luck and seriously -the fact that you found and engaged in the Leerburg community makes you anything but stupid...
Thanks for your help everyone... They put him on Lasik and his breathing seems to be doing better right now.(He has urinated about 4 times within the last few hours not sure if this is a side affect from the drug or if he is just feeling better he has not wanted to go out much lately) My mom said that they did an x-ray and all his organs are functioning properly. I'm not sure how closely they have looked at his chest but the specialist will probably order new x-rays Friday cus our vets usually are not good enough quality for them.
Connie I think your right about our vet I just got a postcard for my personal dog the other day saying my dog needs several vaccines including Bordetalla I'm going to see how they treat me when I go in and tell them I do not want them and evaluate the situation myself. I have never had any severe health issues with my dog so I have only used them to get heartworm meds from and had his nails clipped before I started doing it myself. After what has happened I'm going to sit down with them and see where they stand on vaccines and raw diets etc. I really struggle in Saint Joseph to find vets I trust as well as trainers. I think I will start looking around the Kansas City Area.
Just got a text from my mom they are leaving the specialist in K.C. right now so I thought I would give everyone an update though I wish it was better news. Diego has severe heart disease caused by irreversible valve degeneration that cannot be corrected with surgery. (They are giving him 4 meds have not heard from my folks what they are yet and the vet said he could live a month or a year no way of really knowing) I'm really bummed was hoping it was something from the vacs that was overlooked but guess not. (However I still wonder if the vaccine stressed his heart in some way that aggrevated his pre-exsiting condition. When I was reading about bordetella on the live-strong website it said it could cause endocarditis) Well anyways just wanted to give everyone an update and thank you all on your input again, it's really nice to have a place to bounce this stuff off so many knowledgable people.
Thank you Connie I will definately mention that to my folks they are both beating them selfs up a bit with the what if's or should have's. Were just going to have to make things the best we can for Diego for the time being.

PLEASE tell them this. Not only that, but I researched this breed a little and found that one of their health vulnerabilities is indeed degenerative valve disease.
In Havanese, for the most part, non-congential murmurs appear to be an insufficiency of the mitral valve which may develop at any time. ... In some Havanese, the mitral valve ages prematurely .... from http://www.mts.net/~mckay55/genetics.html
Medication for heart conditions has become really sophisticated since my time. Many dogs can really be helped by the correct cocktail of agents, and since the dog is tiny it probably won't cost a fortune. I'm hoping that your folks may be really pleasantly surprised at how well this goes-- they might see a wonderful response.
Wishing you the best.
Just to add quickly if your folks feed this dog table food at all do NOT give him anything with salt, it can bring on pulmonary edema. I'm sorry you didn't get better news, Jodi
My animals are not "like" family, they ARE family.
