It's pretty hard to culture (try to get bugs to grow) urine after antibiotics have been started. Usually, it works much better if you can catch some urine in a clean (just out of a hot dishwasher) glass jar, cap it and refrigerate and then start your antibiotics.

I didn't even know it was possible.

Cat, Betty is a retired vet. I hoped she would catch this thread.

Hello, thanks for that info, thats very interesting, she has darkened hair around there which would make me think she leaks but never see or smell any on her beds and i smell them a lot because im anal about cleanliness lol. How would I even know for sure if she was.
How long after antibiotics are finished should i culture.
I will try just calling the vet and asking what I should do. I think he will be open to that, hes seen her a few times about this so...
I never thought of the urine scald thing, when we applied her cream when she was at her worst it was awful, we had to hold her down and she would cry and growl(never try to bite)and run around the house after yelping then as it healed it didnt even bother her so we thought she was all better....know better now
Thanks again

Urine scald ..... you wouldn't see or smell the urine with a lot of dogs because they clean/lick it up.
I am cringing thinking of applying anything irritating to an already caustically-burned area. (Urine is very caustic.)
Desitin would feel good and work well, but I'd probably try it first and make sure she didn't lick it off. Even though it's partly fish oil (as I recall), it's also zinc oxide, and the dog can't ingest that. My alternate try would probably be pure vitamin E from pierced and squeezed capsules smoothed fairly plentifully over the area, while you wait to find out what the vet suggests in such a tongue-accessible area. Whether it clears it up is a question, but I know it will feel better.

This is Desitin: http://www.desitin.com/which-desitin-product-should-you-choose
I had the terrible experience of recommending it to a friend whose (human) baby had a rash-type bottom sore, and she bought Desenex. That poor baby. Thank heaven the mother called and said "Did I get the right thing?" I yi yi.
Actually, on second thought, because of the zinc oxide, and because you may have vitamin E right there, I'm thinking the E would be better. I'd squeeze enough capsules into a saucer so that I could smooth it on without rubbing/pulling at the affected skin.

I would put the E on.
Maybe Betty will see this and comment on Polysporin for urine scald. But for now, I know E to be at least painless, and at best anti-inflammtory and modestly healing. I've used it on all kinds of raw skin areas.
But I do mean the real gelcaps for ingestion .... not the bottle of topical E they sell in drugstores for this. I've read some of those labels and seen that they are mostly not real vitamin E. They are mostly some kind of oil with E added.

You're right! I have an aloe plant, which I got after discovering how hard it was to find the straight unadulterated gel for purchase.
BTW, I'm sorry she has a cone (traumatic to many dogs), but this may allow you to safely use the Desitin for a few days.
And maybe she could have a donut instead of the cone.

my mom used to have an aloe plant, it was great!
She hated the cone at first but now shes pretty used to it, knocks over the broom 5x a day. We wanted to buy those neck brace things but have found them not always effective with dogs at work and shes so agile shed probably find a way to lick. plus they are $35....cone was free!
She got a salmon jerky treat for Valentines day lol

Vice wore the donut one for a few hours after he was neutered...I'm not sure exactly how long it took him to kill it but I was only gone for a couple hours and came back and it was dead.
