hi, sadly i am excited about a training "break-through" even if it was unintended.
as kids we were force trained to hydrate EVERY time we came across a water source. carried water was only there as a last resort.
so anyways when out in forest with dog the dog seemed to copy this behaviour. now i can point in a direction n give a verbal command n the dog will trot out in the direction i'm pointing and plonk itself down in the the water.
i thought hey this dog is doing a command so i set up a training situation in the yard with hurdles, touch pads etc and a trough full of water to give the dog a choice - n made sure the dog wasn't thirsty. to my amazement the dog will select the correct item from a choice n climb into the water and down.
sorry boring story but was so amazed i trained something without getting it from a video or from another trainer.
Peter it's things like this that keep you continually building and growing your relationship. I love these kinds of moments.
When they happen, they just keep the training fun, accidental or not! Sounds like fun.
