Sorta like sticking your fingers into a nutcracker right near the hinge and then having someone stand on it? LOL
Ah....yep. Exactly!
Vince gets bitter melon capsules once a week and one day, smart me gets the bright idea to give them to him while he’s eating. He’s chewing and swallowing anyway and I thought it might be easier for him than the dry throat I usually slide them down. He’s a great pill taker; I should have just left well enough alone.
It looked to me like he had just swallowed so I grabbed his beak, stuck the pill in and felt a chunk of meat bone in there just about to fall out. Well in his eagerness to catch it and my split second thought of “Oh no, the jaws are coming down”, the tip of my forefinger got the full pressure of his back molars.
It’s been about 5 months. The nail grew back and I got away without having to have it drained but Oh My Gawd, talk about pain.
Yes, I’m blond and yes - DON'T stick your fingers in your dog’s mouth while he’s eating.
I can totally sympathize with you Stephanie. My puppy just turned 12 weeks yesterday and the first two weeks I would have bloody hands and arms. She is finally "getting it" and the last week there has been no blood drawn. I don't remember my last puppy being like this, so I took pictures of my hands so I'll remember for next time.
Your guy is gorgeous and wow, he looks like he's going to be a big one. Stock up on Polysporin and bandaids.
LOL well i'm a brunette so we're all even I am so glad he had his puppy teeth. Pierced right through the nail and it was drained naturally. it's not half as bad as it would have been if his teether weren't so dang sharp.
ok..so i posted my next question in another forum (on this site) but no responce..would love ya'lls oppinion as well.
this is the newest scenario
ok..so my puppy very much enjoys playing with the flirt poll, rag, and mini pup tug. will counter automatically if not full and gets fairly excited the second he sees the toys come out. Jumping and has barked once or twice (high pitch he's a gsd). Today he got pretty frustrated with me because it was potty time and not play time and he couldn't chase the neighbors cat while attatched to the line. although he tried and tried. he redirected on me. Jumped up and latched onto my sleeve (praise the Lord I had a coat on) and pretty much went nutso. twisting and shaking and trying to kill my arm. which did hurt quite a bit because upon his rebite he pierced my skin and bruised me. He is only 10 weeks and we are working hard at teaching him "no bite" when it comes to hands and ankels. we even went a whole day without any broken skin. But this just baffled me. This is my first working pup and I am trying my DARN BEST to be patient and redirect his focus on other things when he is being a turd. I also hope my first impression was correct and that it was just redirecting his frustration and prey drive on the closest thing possible. He has NEVER acted that intense on a tug or rag. should i hold off a looooong time to introduce him to a puppy sleeve or should i get one and carry it with me at all times?
