I am finding things other than Leerburg to become increasingly unreadable. 40 dead from an unmanned drone in Pakistan, 8 boys 2 wks ago in Afghanistan, now we're going to rain hell from the sky in Libya, Japan so ghastly it's unbelievable.
I wish our nation would become a force for good.
Todays news suggests some evil force has taken control-- of everything.
I know, me too Betty. All I can say is escapism can work wonders for a short while anyway.
My husband has high blood pressure, and he decided that he would just take a break and not read or watch the news for a month.
I kid you not, his blood pressure is back to normal.
Sometimes, taking a break from the stuff that worries or bothers you does a world of good.
I agree there are some terrible things happening in the world that are hard to wrap our brains around. That is undeniable. I believe, however, that the news creates a slant of negativity because it sells and people can't look away. That point of view is as toxic as hell, imho.
I handle it by limiting my exposure to the news, and by actively seeking out enough good news to balance out the bad that we are fed with such consistency. If you look closely, you will find a lot of progress, a lot of kindness and a lot of a slow but steady movement forward to a good place.
Things aren't worse than they used to be, it's just that the advancement of media has made us more aware. Now we can do something about it, but it takes time.

..couldn't agree more with all of this...I find myself taking breaks too -but there is inspiration in Japan's struggle too. The stoicism, the committment to help -to stay calm, to demonstrate forebearance -and to assist one another. The Japanese culture places such high value on civility and order -sometimes I think we could take a lesson there...
..now as for another continent -if they try and deploy my boy to Libya....
