Rabies is virtually non existent in Washington. Not worth the risk of the vaccine IMO. Koenig has had vaccine reaction- so I've got an extra special note. IF it were to happen here, the dog may or may not be impounded, but would be put on a 'watch' status, not immediately destroyed from my understanding.
There have been 7 cases of rabies in domesticated animals in Minnesota since the first of the year.
Most are cattle, there was a dog in the fall, and several cats.
The vector here is the skunk.
Google "Board of Animal Health" in your state, and it will show the rabies cases by county.
