Is izzy too skinny? My sister mentioned Izzy is pretty skinny I'm not sure what do you think should I take her to the vet and see if she has worms or is she okay? I can feel her ribs easily and i have to be careful when I brush over them she's very sensitive there.
It is a good idea to take a fecal sample in to make sure she doesn't have worms regardless of her weight. It is a bit hard to tell with the length of her fur... You should be able to feel her ribs but not prominently. Is she sensitive because she simply doesn't like being touched there or do you think it is painful/uncomfortable. Regardless, a dog slightly underweight (but well fed nutritionally) is better off than an overweight dog, imho.
It's hard to tell with a long haired dog, but from those pics she looks about like my longhaired dogs when they're wet. I can feel ribs pretty easily, but they're all very active and healthy. And as Barbara said, I'd rather have them a touch skinny than over weight.
It can also be a bit hard to keep weight on active teenage dogs. And most people are used to seeing dogs that are at least a bit overwieght. So while it certainly wouldn't hurt to d a fecal check, chances are that she is just a healthy adolesent dog
In those pics, I'm looking at the width of her chest compared to the width of her waist. My wife says I do that to every woman I see, but that's besides the point.
Based on her chest(OK, y'all.....Quit.), I'd say she is pretty dang close to perfect. Just looks like a narrow framed dog to me.
okay good I was not worried until my sister said something, I feed her raw so she is on a good diet and I walk her between 2 to 3 hours plus other things (ob,flirt pole etc)
But now I am worried about my mom who is visiting us trying to give her junk ( cereal, donuts, fried chicken etc.)
because she feels bad for her
I do not want a fat dog !
But she does not listen to me because she "know better" than I do.
That makes sense...she's narrow like a young dog usually is. My 11 month old German Shepherd weighs 80+ lbs, but is still super narrow. He is just starting to grow out instead of up.
If she's 8 months, she'll probably top out close to 40# - a really great size for a dog, IMO. Big enough to do the "big dog" stuff with, but still in a smaller size bracket for frontline, HW meds, etc, easier to transport, takes up less space on the bed (oops my bad :grin
Kenzi was 29# at 8 months and she's made it to 37# at 2 y/o.
