Also, is it ok that I hard boil eggs (from my own chickens ) as the occcassional snack/treat or do I have to feed it raw? They like to play with and then eat them.
Cooked eggs are a great food to add--they are actually a little better nutritionally than raw. You only need to cook until the whites are set to overcome a slight B vitamin imbalance. (for more than you want to know about this subject Google "biotin-avidin in eggs.")
But raw eggs are a just fine as a treat if you don't feed them too often. Cooked--feed all you want. I have chickens too, and the dogs are a great way to get rid of all those free eggs!
I just discovered that my dogs like the hard boiled eggs a lot better than raw! I was a bit surprised. They gobble up the hard boiled ones in seconds.
Ever since I read about the avidin issue, I have started to either make them a quick cooked egg just like Tracy said just enough to get whites cooked and yolk runny. But their new preference is hard boiled!
Lisa, you lucky duck getting free goat to feed your pack!
