I have two Rottweiler’s, an 18 mo male and an 8 mo female, that I stitched over to raw food last Wednesday. The female has been doing fine but the male keeps vomiting. He always vomits up his breakfast and dinner. But if I give him some in between he keeps it down. I am feeding them a mixture of ground up whole chicken and ground beef to start them out. Any suggestions?
Generally, it is advised to begin with just one item - normally chicken, for several days to ensure the dog isn't having any issues with the one item, and then begin, gradually, to add other items. It MIGHT be helpful to back off to just the chicken for several days to see if he still has the issue. Just a thought...
He has always had a delicate tummy. Even on kibble he often had loose stool. That is why I switch them to the raw diet. My plan was to feed him 18oz RMB, 16oz muscle meat, 2oz other protein (yogurt, cottage cheese and eggs), and 4oz of a veg for a total of 40 oz a day. He has had no issues with the other protein and veg (broccoli, mashed this week) I had originally just had him on the ground up whole chicken and only added the beef this morning to see if it would help any. I started out with giving him 18 oz of the meat in one meal and 16 in another but quickly reduced it to half of that each time when he would not keep it down. This morning I only gave him about 3 oz and he threw that up within a couple minutes of finishing it. 3 hours later I gave him the same amount of the same thing (chicken and beef mixed) and he kept it down no issues. So maybe switch back to just chicken and give him 3 to 4 oz every few hours and then gradually increase the amount and time between? I also eventually plan on adding some supplements but wanted to make sure they were first adjusted to this new diet. I really want to keep him on this diet because even though he has thrown some of it up, he has managed to keep some of it down and even in the few days he has been on it his stool has consistently been good. (something we have never seen before with him!)
