Are shepherd dogs more "where I crap" conscious? I just seems to me they were a lot easier to house train. I recall growing up hounds would crap any where but all my shepherd go for as far as they can from the house and kennels.
My male has a 'favorite' place (area when I took him to 'go' as a puppy & stays in that area. But he is a dog that tends to 'defalt' to originaly learned behaviors.
My female has several places that she likes to go.
One of my other males was like he is & stayed in the same place I took him as a pup. My other male was like my female with several places he'd go.
But overall my male is a PIG. Maybe it's just a boy thing. But all my males have just been messier, sloppier, droolier etc then my female is.
Where they go is not in the areas that they lay down (in the shade) or areas that they tend to run around it. But then I check & pick up several times a days to keep the yard clear.
dunno about that, I got one raised in the kennel and she house trained quickly and pick her favorite spot away from everything. But I had hounds that would crap next to their bowl
Both of mine house trained quickly but they move outside to the kennel after about 7-8 months old.
One wont even crap in the kennel run and is particular about the spot in the yard where he will go. He wouldn't step on his or another dog's mess to save his life.
The other not only goes anywhere but dances around when he does it and stomps all over it. He could care less.
it's an individual behavior not a breed behavior!
My dutchie will stop and crap while I am biking with him WITHOUT WARNING, just "stop and dump" right in the middle of the street or path, no matter what speed we are going he'll just stop. I even had to stand there and wait while a car was stopped also waiting.
A tired dog is a good dog, a trained dog is a better dog.
Hounds are not exactly known for being the brightest dogs out there..... We had a hell of a time trying to bring a few of the foxhounds I grew up with into the house.
