Well, you've inspired me to teach Chula to balance something( anything ) on her nose.
So far, she's not too crazy about the idea.
She has tendancy to look up when I touch the object to her nose, so I got down at eye level with her, and that helps. Any other tips? I'm starting out with a small piece of cardboard...
I'll post video when I've made a little more progress...
Those are great pictures, Ingrid! It's funny you posted these, I just finished attempting this with Roger, It didn't go so well. I had a Dobe that was great with anything balanced on his nose.
You could enter Frost in the Planet Dog "I love my Orbee" contest! Isn't that an old soul ball?
Poe was a one in an infinity :-) Lynne - I put the dog in a sit and get down to their level which, depending on the dog, is either kneeling or sitting crosslegged. How big is the piece of cardboard? I usually start with something a bit heavier and small like a quarter. I will put the item on the dog's nose and support the muzzle with my hand while saying "hold it, hold it, good hold it"
The first few times I do this I never take my hand off the muzzle before removing the item and immediately treating the dog. From there you work in increments to get the dog to hold it without the hand there. Often the dogs get wise and will start to tip their head/nose in a way that will make the item fall off the nose. I will say "uh uh" and use my hand to move the head back to the proper position.
Depending on the dog, this could go quickly or slowly but no matter the ability of the dog, it takes a lot of patience on the part of the owner :-)
