I've made a flirt pole for my 9 week old GSD pup from an old fishing rod with a rope about 4 feet long and a rag tied to the rope. He absolutely loves chasing that old rag. He knows where I keep it on the front porch and will try to get it if I don't carry it out with me.
Here's my question. What ratio of chase to catch is good? How long to make him chase the rag before he catches it? Right now I'm letting him make about 6 or 7 passes in front of me then letting him catch the rag and carry it. Also gently tugging on the rag. (Joker plants his feet and PULLS!!)
I would do it no more then it takes for him to lose intrest. Meaning if he jst sits or goes down in drive, you didn't let him catch it enough, if he is fine with 6 to 7 passes that sounds good enough to me. I used to do about 4-5 passes then let him win. Later on he would do 10-12 passes, I vary the amount of time it takes, sometimes 1-2 sometimes 7-8, keep him guessing, that makes it fun for both of you.

I'm afraid there has been a big mis-understanding. For all who don't know..."Butthead" was a cartoon character in a show called Beavis and Butthead. Apparently only Lonny got my original joke. I will pm Ed to explain. I apologize to everyone if my stupid sense of humor has gotten anyone in trouble.
Oh, boy, sorry Chuck, if I've gotten anyone in trouble. I know full well who B&B are, and I did get it, thank you. The thread just kinda sat for a while with that inviting statement just dangling there, and I couldn't resist. My apologies.
