Because my boyfriend has been in the military since high school until September last year, he's never had a 'real' job and has never dealt with landlords, moving, and paying bills beyond internet in the barracks. When he moved here he did everything wrong and ended up renting a house with no insulation (not a trace of it), huge cracks in the doors, windows, you can feel cold air blowing through the baseboards in winter. It's just a crappy place to live, despite looking nice. Our power bill for last month was $300 and the place is only 800 sq ft. I'm desperate to move and I found an apartment complex that is well within our budget.
We'd spend $1000 max a month on bills AND rent, whereas we're spending almost $1500 a month on bills and rent in this crappy house. This new place is also closer to his job, so it'd save on gas, too. We'd have to break our lease here, forfeit the deposit and pay an extra months rent, but we'd save that much in 6 months at the new place by moving out six months early here. This apartment complex also has a washer/dryer in the unit (we're hauling clothes down the road right now), it's the same size as this house, there's a dog park right out side of the two units we're interested in, there's tons of shady landscaping, and they will accept two large pets. I've already talked to my parents and they've agreed to let us keep our other two dogs on their property out in the country. Once we're ready to move north for school we'll just pick them up and go.
The problem is he's dragging his feet on this. We just paid rent today, we should have put in a 30 day notice, but since he refuses to agree or disagree despite saying it DOES make sense to move, I haven't sent out the letter yet. At this rate we're going to be paying for July AND August instead of just July, we're going to miss out on the apartments, and we're going to be stuck in this house in the hottest part of the year in Louisiana. If our power bill is that expensive in May, I dread seeing what it is in July unless we die from heat stroke.
The work of a housing change is likely the issue.
I bet if my husband finally retires it will be my job to sell all stuff.
Hubby will pack his suitcase and his laptop just as he does when we travel!
More stuff to make me crazy today - now he calls me to say that his contract job with the Navy is on the fritz. They're firing the supervisor, the people who haven't been doing their job got a 'talking to' and the company told two others to turn in their resignation letters because they were looking for other work on their own time.
Maybe he just hasn't told me ALL about the bullshiz that's going on at work, and that's why he's so reluctant to move somewhere else. Either way, we need to move, especially if he loses his job. I'm going to CL to look for a roommate situation right now.
