Hello. I couldn't figure out where to post this question, so I am putting it out there generally for your opinions.
I have a 2 year old GSD, German-bred, family companion dog (neutered). I am considering adding a puppy in the fall from the same father as my current dog.
My breeder and I e-mailed briefly and she suggested a female pup of a similar disposition. My agility trainer shook her head at the idea of a female telling me that a female would come in and "rule the roost" and be an over-all "bitch" (pardon that, but it'a a quote).
I guess in the end it depends on the way two dogs get along. Either way, both would be neutered and would be companions and do agility.
So...got an opinion/experience on that? Thanks much.

I'd trust the breeder's advice. She knows your current dog, and the personalities of the pups she breeds. Just discuss with her the kind of temperament you want in the new dog.
The agility trainer is making a general statement that isn't always true. Sure, there are pushy bitches, but there are laid back ones too. In my pack of five, I've got both, as well as pushy and laid back males.
Besides, YOU will be "ruling the roost," not the dog. JMO
I agree with Tracy - work with your breeder to pick a female with the temperament you are looking for. Not all bitches are edgy alphas, and a male-female pair of companion dogs in a household is usually easier to manage. For the past 15 years we have consistently had two male dogs in our house - it just keeps working out that way with the dogs that have come into our lives. I make it work because I'm in charge and I don't allow inappropriate BS, but two males can get competitive and stupid with each other in ways that would be less likely with a male-female pair, so it's more work for the human pack leader stay on top of things. JMHO.
As I get older I'm thinking that my next GSD will be a sweet laid-back female.....
Depends on the dogs. Depends on your ability to read and lead your pack.
I've always had 2-3-4 dogs at a time, often mixed sex and they always ran together. Not during heat cycles obvilously but never had a problem.
Presently I have two, intact male, working line GSDs that are together 24/7 outside.
In my house, I guess I'm the pushy B*tch. I don't let my female bully my male or rule the house. If you take on the role of leader I don't think there would be a problem if the temperment was fairly stable and proper training was done. I bet you could handle either if you made the choice to make it work for your situation. (non-expert opinion anyways)
I have two females and added a male pup about a year ago. What is more important than their gender is their energy levels IMO...Mine all run at about the same "speed" and compliment each other.
