The manager was promptly sacked. I know the ADA will ensure the Mom hit's the lottery. If I were McDonalds corp I'd offer a Mom small fortune before a lawyer convinces her to sue for a large one. State law for assault and discrimination is gonna be the former manager's least problem..
I wonder if we'll see a person with a service dog in the background of a future Micky D's commercial soon?
I am sure all the other 99.99% of the managers who understand service dogs are thrilled about the 5 hour mandatory "Dont Hit people with special needs" training they have to go through, courtesy HR and Legal department of McD.
Truth be told I carry a copy of the Arizona Revised Statutes pertaining to service dogs in the Jeep (so the cop know how to write the ticket) and on the rare occasion that I have trouble I encourage them to summon the police so they can get a ticket costing $750 for interfering with a service animal. It's amazing how agreeable folks get when you start asking them to call the cops on themselves.
And I do feel sorry for the people who HTST sitting through stupid training.
I had a friend (sadly since deceased) who became blind shortly after we graduated from college. She eventually got a Seeing Eye Dog to help her navigate Manahattan more easily. You would be amazed at the number of restaurant owners who would call the police when we refused to leave, not to mention the number of places that did not want to let us in.
It's sad that 40 years later, things really haven't changed too much.
