We have a 16 month old dog that we adopted from a shelter. He is a WONDERFUL animal, but has a big issue. Whenever someone comes to the house he goes berserk. The hair goes up, the growling is crazy, and he just seems terrified of all people He is such a smart dog, but this is one thing I just don't know how to deal with. There are so many people coming in and out and we've got to break him of this soon. Thank you!
Pack structure for the family pet and basic obedience Dvd's. Those are 2 of the four I bought when I first foung this site. I have 2 shelter dogs and they really need the structure more so it seemed than our other two.
It's not DVD's you need, it's just practice. Do you have a language with your dog that he understands? Does he know yes, no, stop, wait, etc? If you have laid the basics down, you can then practice your door situation.
Note that I give this advice, but in my situation I encourage my trusting dog into the laundry room (and close the door) before I let in the delivery guy.
I am not an expert.... Pack Structure DVD will give you the fundamentals of being a leader your dog can respect and look to for guidance. If your dog knows that you are it's leader/protector he/she won't be so inclined to be fearful of certain situations.
OB is also important, Marker Training and Trainingyour dog with Food will also help your dog become more confident in you and themself.
