There was an article in Front & Finish this month regarding some judges. Regretfully, I had one of those judges this weekencd. The article stated that possibly one of the reasons for the decline in entries in obedience was due to some ill-tempered judges. This could possible be true. Usually I leave the trial feeling good about myself & my dog but today is different.
It doesn't cost much for the trial to smile & be pleasant. I know conflicts are going to come up & errors can happen. But it is how the judge goes about resolving those conflicts that makes me want to show under him again.
Today we got ready to show in open & the judge wanted to know how high my dog jumped. I told her & she practically called me a liar. She went to measure him herself & finally agreed that we did jump that but just the way she went about it, left a very bitter taste in my mouth. By this time, I have really lost interest in showing & I did pull my dog out of 2 entries later as she was the judge.
Thanks for listening. I just needed to vent a little.
A Few weeks ago i was stewarding at a trial, the judges i worked with were nice enough but my grip of the day was with the competitors!!! After about the third competitor i called to the area i had made it my little challenge to try and actually make the competitors smile, let me tell you its realy hard!!! Correct me if i am wrong but i thought the idea behind this kind of "hobby" was to have fun!, i could have got more smiles at a body wax salon
Maybe we should put your judges with our competitors now that might be worth watching
Julie, you are absolutely right. Most of the times it is the competitors. Looking back on this, it was probably partially our club's fault also. The lady that was primarily in charge of this trial is not well organized. A lot of people didn't get their notices that their entry was received & what time to come. This included the judge. She came at 8:00 as she was not sure what time the trial started. So I think everyone just started off on the wrong foot & everything just run downhill after that. She had the numbers all wrong so it was hard to tell who was running & when. One event the numbers were totally wrong & 407 was actually 102. It was impossible to get people lined up to go in next as you were not sure who was what. Hopefully, we never had a trial like this again.
