To keep this short, new police k-9 will not bark during building search once he locates decoy. we have tried the following:
decoy inside of cage with bite sleeve agitating k-9
decoy inside of cage with toy enticing k-9
decoy in horse stable with bite sleeve
having another seasoned k-9 bark at door with new k-9 by his side
ANY ADVICE?
Note: K-9 was puchased with Schutzhund obedience and bite work. Seemes to lack some prey drive when it comes to these types of searches. He will just lay down at the door, no scratch, paw on the door, wimper, nothing. Thanks in advance
Does he bark at any time. What, if anything does set him off barking? Have you tried chasing the decoy; the dog handler just a foot or two away from the decoy as he runs into the building. obviously this takes some timing so the decoy doesn't get bit in the patootie.
You might also try some surgical tubing. It's like a large rubber band. If the dog isn't showing any avoidance AT ALL, during this exercise, you might try snapping at him with the tubing, from behind a mostly closed door. Frustration is your friend.
Try conducting some bitework in a door way, call the dog out, send him in again and close the door just as he gets there.
Your description of the problem is short so while it's not exactly shooting in the dark with suggestions, I am throwing up some random pot shots.

Things need to be taken into account when you use a SchH dog for police work, even if they have prey drive , doesn't mean they have fight drive. Take a look at this, it's easily worth $20.
Thanks guys. David, we have chased the decoy in the room and conducted bite work inside the doorway. I am going to try to get that surgical tubing or something similar that will serve the same purpose. Since my last post, we have been able to get 3 or 4 barks from behind a closed door. It is still taking alot of work from the decoy to get these barks but it is coming along. Will let you know how the tubing works. Thanks!
