It could also be that his pain is causing him to be grumpy...my old lady Cairn Terrier is a big old crab nowadays. Thought I had her improved with a joint supplement, but now that cold weather has set in, she is stiff again. Going to have to work something more out for her. Just a thought...
Thank you EVERYONE for your replies, links, advice, etc. It really helped me yesterday to a) know that I'm not the only one who has dealt with this and b) there are LOTS of creative ways to work with him. I have really struggled with feeling like I've failed Stryker by doing the fostering thing and getting him to the point that he's at. It's awesome and empowering to know that I can work to fix that, and help him be more balanced than he has ever been. I'm excited to start working with him on this, and developing just my dog training skills in general for future pack members down the road (because let's face it, once you've had three dogs, any fewer just isn't going to seem like enough).
thank you! I appreciate the warm welcome to the forums, and look forward to learning lots.

You are very welcome And it is very refreshing to have someone who feels the same way I do about life with dogs...it is all a journey. The collective knowledge of this group has certainly made mine and my dogs' lives so much better!
