You are all familiar with my 90 lb. 22 month old shepherd cross, Jethro. Super smart, super handsome, and highly reactive (those garbage cans weren't there yesterday!). And my super cool dude 11 year old 20 lb. fox terrier, Skipper (sure, cram me in that bag, zip it up and stuff me under a bus seat for an hour. I'm cool with that).
This morning I was checking under the kitchen sink at the cabin we are staying in and a mouse ran out onto the kitchen floor. I screamed and tried to climb onto the kitchen counter. Jethro, out on the deck at the time, ran in to see what was going on, and ran back out onto the deck and started barking at ???. Skipper, caught sight of the mouse and started chasing it, trying to catch it. Not a bark, not a sound, just getting down to business.
The mouse ran in behind the fridge and I couldn't budge it, so Skipper kept a close watch on that escape route for awhile, but has now given up and is sleeping. Jethro ran in, ran around, and then ran back out on the deck to bark some more. Super useful. Just in case there were any more mice out there thinking of coming in, he was making sure they knew he was there.

Jethro is making sure Skipper is not bothered during the task at hand.

Very funny story, Jenny. But, really, you screamed and tried to climb onto the counter? I think you're going to catch some flack for that!

I do the same thing too when I see a cockroach. A mouse I am cool with as long as it does not run towards me . Once it runs towards me I will turn into what my sister charitably described as " a pansy" .
But such a cute story.

Well, what is that mouse going to do? I think screaming and trying to climb up onto the nearest ledge is very reasonable.

This is funny, well you not your dogs!
My friend Victor aka Mouse trap or broom, running shoes, pots and pan are fast and effective against mice.
Screaming and running just very funny

Jenny, you were the focus of a bit of a camera shoot we had the other day.
I don't allow chasing any large game whatsoever, and fixation on treed squirrels is also out but I do allow them to get mice. They actually provide a great snack for the boys on our mountain hikes.
Quite a normal thing for my gang but when Chucky (an overnight sleepover ) and Echo teamed up on this one, your hilarious encounter popped into my thoughts and I screamed too but it was …..Bob, get out the camera!
The spot

Oh, here it is, I'll get it.

Echo quick, don't let it get away!

Teamwork, going in for the kill. Keep snorting Chucky, he's coming up here.

Didn't get the actual death shake but once they get it we have to employ some pretty quick timing to get them to drop it and see what it actually is. We don't allow shrews and couple of other things but this was just one of the normal field mice we have around here.
This is what it will look like when they get one. Maybe desensitize yourself a bit for the next episode. Just trying to help. Warning.... dead mouse.
Ouuuutttt. A good "out" really comes in handy. Much different than their "bucky" command. http://i684.photobucket.com/albums/vv210/wolfpup2227/MouseBoys014.jpg
Flipped over for identification and just for you Jenny.

It's funny, most of our training begins in the house and then we move it outdoors for the higher distractions. I believe this training has a much higher success rate (not to mention opportunity) when started outdoors - then when the threat presents itself inside, they’re well versed it what to do.
Excellent personal protection feature of our cherished companions.
