Kerri was at our place last night meeting some of our dogs. We will be "replacing" Bak - not as her K-9, but as her family dog. When she saw Ivo, she just burst into tears, he looked so much like Bak.
Dangerous to be a Moore PSD. Years ago, another one of their dogs (Cir) had a poisoning attempt on his life. Instead of Cir, they got his kennel mate, Sadie, with metaldehyde (slug/snail bait). We managed to pull her through the siezures, but unfortunately she ended up having to be euthanized anyway. The prolonged siezure activity fried her brain. She was hyper-reactive to every sound, movement, etc. Terrified by everything is no way to go through life, so her owners ended up making the decision to put her down.
I hope they find out who cut the lock on Baks' kennel, and took him out of the neighborhood. They had to open two gates just to get him out of the yard. The neighborhood is completely gated with a entry/guard house, so he didn't just walk out on his own.
Doesn't it seem like a whole lot of evil crap has been directed at dogs lately? The thing with Hex - and it seems like every other day you hear about some other dog taken/targeted for some sick revenge for something.
Just so terribly sad Becky. It does seem like there is some sick revenge going on these days. Way too many stories that turn my stomach.
I can't even imagine such a valuable loss as losing a K9.
My heart goes out to the handler and to the force for their profound loss.
