So we were stringing popcorn yesterday and the kids (oldest being pre-K) scattered popcorn pieces all over the place. Daisy was wandering around "supervising". She never just eats "stuff" and hates popcorn! I hear her gagging a bit and all I think is, "Weird, I thought she hated popcorn!" Then my 3 year-old starts crying that her popcorn is gone.
It's then that I see the STRING hanging out of Daisy's mouth. I pull the remnants of the string out of her mouth and throat, but there is no sign of either the popcorn (She hates popcorn!) or the NEEDLE that I am 100% sure was attached to it at one point (pun intended). I can't see anything in her mouth or throat, but she is fighting me a lot harder than seems warranted. I rush her to the emergency vet, praying that this isn't going to require surgery to fix. I wouldn't be able to justify spending 2K on emergency surgery to fix an almost 13 year old dog who might not even survive the procedure.
They take her away for X-rays and all I can think of is, "If she dies the first thing I will ask her after I die too is 'Was it really worth it?!! You hated popcorn!!.'" Fortunately, the X-rays and a physical exam turn up nothing. Apparently that needle is lying on our living room rug waiting to be stepped on, so I can breathe a little easier.
Woozle was jealous. He would have Looooved a popcorn string, needle and all, and certainly all of the excitement that came with it.
Merry Christmas everybody!! And I hope your dogs stay safe!

Yoiks! I just put up a little Christmas tree and now I am thinking about Jethro and what he will make of it. Its a fake tree, so hopefully he won't want to chew the branches. I just hope he doesn't want to fish the decorations off.
Glad the dog is ok.
My wife and I tried the popcorn string thing on our tree soem yrs back. Never again!
You couldn't smell the tree anymore and the house smelled like a stale movie theater after a couple of days.
