Update - it seems Ruben's diarrhea and weight loss were due to some bacterial growth in his gut caused by the antibiotic he had to have after the biopsies of his ears. That antibiotic treatment is over now and he's started on a different antibiotic that's supposed to work on the bad bacteria in his gut and return things to normal in there. He got some bag fluids for his dehydration, and the current thinking is that he is showing positive signs and it's just going to be a slow improvement for him.
As always, any other suggestions are greatly appreciated -
