what about a flat coated retriever? they are definately different and they are wonderful dogs, as far as I've seen. or a sheltie, they're great at OB as well.
Originally posted by Julia Smith: Anyone know about the Tevuren? I had a Tervuren years ago, pretty dog with a great nose and nice obedience. He was also the dog that I first tried Schutzhund with, his nerves were a little weak for bitework but he was fun to learn with. I actually probably learned more about what drives you need for a schutzhund dog from him than any other dog I have owned. http://kaiserhaus.com/dylan.htm
At the time I purchased Dylan, I couldn't locate a Malinois and had grown up with a Groenendael (Belgian Sheepdog) so I decided to try a Terv.
I wouldn't rule out a GSD though, a good German Shepherd is such a versatile dog you can do just about anything with them.
I am enjoying researching the dogs you all have suggested. Thank you. I probably wont get a dog till summer 2005, so I have lots of time to research and get the right dog. I am trying to find a good match for my current dog, who has low to medium activity level and is an alpha male. He is only a year old but always been kinda a mellow guy.
