I have a Dogtra 1900NCP ecollar I bought from Leerburg. The batteries in both the transmitter and receiver are nearing end of life and I need to replace them. The manual mentions replacing the batteries, but doesn't say how. I've found the appropriate battery replacement on the Dogtra web site.
Has anyone replaced these batteries before? Is it as simple as removing the screws on the devices and pulling the battery out and inserting a new one?
I'd appreciate hearing back from anyone who has replaced the batteries of this devices.
Hubby did ours a few months back and I just picked his brain.
Said something about the sticky back glued thing being kind of finicky and you want to be really careful with the tiny wires.
When I contacted Dogtra to order the batteries, they were really good. Without asking, she said they have a help desk and if we had any questions, to call and they would walk us through it.
Bob didn't have any problems but it was nice to know they were there.
I'm curious how long your batteries lasted? And what was the indication that they needed to be replaced? The units weren't holding a charge very long? Or were you having to turn it to a higher level when you used it? Thanks!
Not sure who your question is directed at Jon but with mine, they weren't holding a charge.
The older one was really bad. I'd have it on the charger over night and the next day, about half an hour into our hike it turned yellow and within an hour it was red. No use, it just drained. If I used the vibrate, it would turn yellow almost immediately.
The newer one, both 1900’s, wasn't as bad but we changed all four batteries at the same time. The old one lasted almost 3 years.
I have had the collar since March 2009. The symptoms are the length of time the batteries hold a charge. I've noticed for at least a year now, probably longer, that the batteries have been declining. Where it stands now is that after a full charge the lights change color, and the remote shows fewer bars, after the first use. Turn it off for awhile and it acts like it has a full charge (green light and three bars) but hit the pager button once and the lights turn red and I get one bar on the pager.
Even with a low charge (red lights) when I hold the collar and push the pager button the vibration feels strong to me. When the battery is nearly totally discharged the collar will vibrate strongly for a second or two and then stop completely.
The batteries for this model are NiMH. Some other (newer?) models use lithium batteries.
I recently, several months ago, had my 1702NCP checked by Dogtra.(stim level was not working correctly. Set at 10 dogs were getting a much higher stim)Not what I want. I basically use it as a back up off my property. But want it to work properly when I do occasionally need to use it.
They checked the whole unit. Replaced all the batteries(although they were working fine & holding a charge)replaced the brushes on the stim dial(the original problem) replaced the front case, the vib buttons, the on/off button & the antena. All for $90. Basically replaced the unit. Which was fine with me...I had OK the work in advance when the contacted me on rec. of the unit. I figured, might as well have it all done while it was there. I had NEVER changed the batteries until then. So it sounds like there may be a problem in your unit other then just the batteries.
This unit has been used multiple times daily for over 6 years on multiple dogs for their outings & runs in the fields. I charge the collars each night. I have never had a problem until then. It was received in their shop one afternoon & out the door back to me the next day. I had purchased this unit directly from Dogtra. It is the 2nd Dogtra collare that I have owned. 1st was a 1700NCP single dog collar, when I only had 1 dog. I have been VERY happy with the units & Dogtra's customer service.
Might be worth sending it to them & have then check it out. I sent the whole unit along with the charging unit & connecting wires. So they had everything to check out.
