hello board members , back after a long absence , and am looking for some input on a subject that is not new to many of you .
i handle hector , a 9 y.o. purebred BC in SAR work . later this spring i will be bringing home henry , the next worker , also a BC from the same breeder .
i am a professional ski patroller and work in the mountains year round . my dog accompanies me all day , every day but does have crates in various locations where he spends his down time .
out of necessity , there will a 12 - 24 month period when i will have both dogs in my care at the same time , though not specifically working / training them simultaneously . this will be my second time through this process , but i would like to handle it better / differently than i did the first time . i'm always open to listen to new ideas and advice offered .
i would like to hear other BB members experiences , suggestions , warnings , recommendations with respect to the homecoming , first contact , exercise time , training , etc . i am under no illusions about using hector to train henry , although obviously they will both be members of my pack .
i am well acquainted with pack structure , crate training , etc and would say that ed and i share very similar views when it comes to our relationships with our canines .
