I am currently shopping for an ecollar (have chosen the right one; now it's gotta fit into the budget!), so I have been studying them and reading reviews. I thought I would share one alarming tidbit, as Ed, Cindy, Michael, and everyone else associated with Leerburg constantly try to remind new users about the importance of conditioning, for the dogs' sake.
In one review (which was the only negative one of 56 posted for that model), the user stated that "This collar doesn't work. I put it on my dog and turned it to the highest setting. When the dog didn't answer to come, I hit the button. Instead of coming, the dog yelped and then went back to sniffing around. That was the only time I shocked him, but now he hides in a corner whenever he sees the stupid thing. What a piece of junk!"
He should return it and get a refund......just kidding.
There's a guy I run into that uses the E collars that shouldn't and IMO to harsh. He gets mad and zaps his pup when he doesn't retrieve the way he wanted the pup is screaming and yelping, sad. I feel like knocking him out.
A forum I read had a woman questioning the validity of an e-collar in training (not her dog, her sister's but she felt it was unfair).
A few of us do use e-collars and explained their correct usage which made more sense to her when one person came on and said their dog wears an e-collar at all times it works great blah blah blah but she 'feels bad' when the dog "screams and crawls under the table" when she shocks it... Uhh. I wound up putting up a comment on turning down the stim level being more effective and humane in the long run but since I never got a question on it I imagine the poor dog is under the table to this day. Can't fix stupid indeed.
