There may be opportunities where you live, to consider, and to maybe get involved.
Locally there is an organization that is called Clear Path for Veterans. One of the programs it offers is one that pairs a vet and a dog. For some vets, working with a dog is a wonderful therapy, and more.
I'm not a shill for the organization and I am not in any way, shape or fashion seeking support for it. If you visit the site, you may get an idea of what to look for near where you live, and maybe there is an opportunity to help a vet in a small way.
We'll have our next AKC CGC certification day April 7th.
I can tell you, as an old vet, that being with a one of these vets and his or her dog, and watching their courage, is an emotional experience.
Most of us have no earthly idea of the trauma many, too many of our veterans have experienced and are experiencing.
One sergeant who suffered traumatic brain and bodily injury, worked with his dog, with such pride and commitment. He walked in with his dog, his wife, and his walking stick. So much courage.
Just some thing to think about. Every now and then I can work with my dogs, meet some vets, drink some coffee.
Lest we forget.
