Oh my gosh... the discussion with the "therapy dog" person...
This would make me want to train "ATTACK!" for "leave it" or something equally as inappropriate. REALLY? Are there still "so called" professionals who think dogs understand english??
Mike, you and pup will do fine. Regardless of the outcome (and I expect great news) it will be a wonderful learning experience. Have fun. What a lucky pup you have...
Barbra I kinda like the "attack" better that the "eat it"
Mike you have another week to polish up on what already sounds like passing with flying colors. Hit some new places with new strangers but already sounds like you have it nailed.
Good luck.
I think a week is enough to train the attack or eat it for the leave it, would love to see there faces with that one.
Well... The AKC CGC test. Conducted at Clear Path for Veterans, Chittenango, NY. 5 vets and their dogs, and a few volunteers and their dogs, and only two dogs didn't get everything right.
Titan did great. Now he has to take the local therapy dog organization's test, and we can visit places. Cool.
It is inspiring to see the vets work with their dogs. Dog and vet grow together. The vet regains confidence and leadership. And has a loyal companion. Nice.
And the facility is world class.
Anyway, Titan, aka Tyson von der Riverside, passed the test and has the paper to prove it.
Interesting how they train the vet to train the dog. Almost no touching, body obstruction to refocus the dog.
Get to help with another test next month. Keep the faith.

Congratulations, Mike and Titan! On to the therapy test, which I'm betting you'll pass with no problem. Those certifications will open whole new worlds for you and Titan to give back to the community and help others in need. What a wonderful cause and a satisfying way to spend time with your dog.
Kelly, I know what you mean. Brio and Max used to be the tandem that I could take to sr. citizen places, and schools, and various places. Now it will be Titan and Brio. Very rewarding stuff.
I get a real sense of satisfaction watching a little kid begin to read to Brio, haltingly at first, and then with more animation, and finally with confidence.
And see a senior citizen anxious to be visited by the dog...
And the dogs know when they are on stage. And they become great ambassadors for dog interaction, and refuters to those who knee jerk opinions about dogs
When it comes right down to it, the CGC test isn't grueling. The things the dog has to do should be the stuff of minimum pet performance and conditioning... Just an opinion.
It is a hoot to see the dog bring a smile...
