Yes. Watch this to hear Michael explain and to see playing in the video (I assume you meant the Advanced Concepts in Motivation DVD http://leerburg.com/228.htm ):
and maybe this, too, even though the main question involves changing focus on other dogs to focus on playing with the handler: http://leerburg.com/flix/player.php?id=777
You'll get more and better answers, too, I'm sure!
This will give you the basis for the Michael Ellis training system.
Yes, I would start with those too, absolutely. Or for someone brand new to markers, I'd probably say to start with the very first and most basic marker intro: http://leerburg.com/219.htm
The O.P. specifically asked about improving playing skills, but you're absolutely right: I should have asked if he knew the basics of marker training!
Hi all
Thanks for the replies,i watched the links you posted connie and found them very helpful,i will try using an orbee ball on a string and when he retrieves it tugging with him as part of the play.I thought that was a good tip, letting him have it after tugging and running with him.He does get distracted when he sees other dogs so all your advice on that will help to.
I do have a few dvds, establishing pack structure, basic dog ob,puppy 8weeks to 8months,marker training and training dogs with food.He was orignally clicker trained at the local class and is very food and ball motivated,i think i will buy the new dvd by michael ellis.
Thanks again for the advice.
