I guess my PC control isn't up to snuff today but WHY would anyone cross two different "breeds" in the first place other then it's the flavor of the month and there's a buck to be made!
ANY breed or even any dog that can't breed or whelp naturally shouldn't be bred much less intentionally creating mutts. JMLTHO of course!
If I am remembering correctly, pugs are supposed to be a lot in a small space, compact. That in its self would make birthing harder. The dad being huskier may have caused some of the bigger pups...whatever genes dominate I guess.
I take it she is doing fine now? And that pup?
I didn't realize toy breed often had fused hip bones, maybe that would explain some of the issues I hear with birthing them.
So far the litter is donig fine, gigner is comming out of the box a bit more and shes eating every ounce i give her and is sitll asking for more we did have a crisis last night when the 112 "alex" dropped to 98g and went lestargic and his temp dropped but with supliment feedings and a warmend baby blanket hes up to 104 this am, happy, squeeky and wiggly. "Lucky" as were calling her has an apt next week for xrays, not sure how ima pull that off yet, getting her away from mommie for so long ginger goes into a freak when I take alexs for feeding. Shes up to 211, wiggling, and squeeking and roaming round the box so I dont see any imediate issues. My breeding vet ( I got a new one apart from my regular vet) came here and did a check up and declared them all fit and gigner too. He said after the stress of the delivery he didn't wana stress her out more with a car ride for the whole littter so he came here to check her.
It is a little nerv wracking having a vet on speed dial for deliverys but I have done everything I can to ensure that I am breading a dame with as little pention for problems as I can. Her line back to her great great great gma have all been help free welpers ( I dont include the mom before that as she had a litter that had to have a c-section but that was a puppie issue: nondecented still born) Rocky as well (for the sake of the puppies) is from a help-free line as well. I have had classes on how to handle newborn issues and I have assisted a few delivery at the vets to make absolutly sure I know whats good and bad to see and do durring delivery and the know when im in over my head. We kknew going into this that "toy" breeds have birthing issues and definatly pugs and you are correct, pugs are a whole lota dog compact into into a tiny one. Weve have done everything possible to make sure that what we are breeding is a pure and problem free line. My mom bread german shepards when I was growing up and thats 100% differnt then this but I kinda had an idea what I was getting into. Most of the dogs bread here are not pure and there mostly large breads. I love my pugs more then any dollar amount, my pugs are usualy sold to ppl that also have a great love for the breed and jsut "because they want it" I do house checks and all my pugs come with a monie back health guarenteee for 6 months and I will allways take them back (buy back till 3 months for full price) I would rather have them back then have them sold further to other ppl and any buy back is kept with me tho I did have one that I fixed and donated for the dogs for patients program at the hospital, shes still there and the patients LOVE her to death and so does the nursing staff.
If a problame came up I would defiantly STOP breading this line instantly, Ginger is more like a family member to me then a dog and it's all about her saftey.
"You should only bred a dog for the benefit of the line/breed" These dogs have a TON of love to give and they come in a small package so they fit into any household and lifestyle. The line I have is a great one one and if it progresses then it will be a pure progression, not a mix mutt or a genetic mess. The puppie I have here from their last litter (a buy back: she whined at night for 2 days O.o) is listed as perfect and she even has a quirky double spiral in her tail, which makes her even more sought after. I have another year before I can even think about weather to breed her or not and she still has many tests before hand as well. If she doesnt have a "passes with flying colors" on them all shell be fixed.
