Two days ago Marco (16 week old rottie) vomited twice during the day. There was a little grass in it. My wife said she noticed he had been picking at grass a little when she and the kids had him outside the day before. He kept eating normally and poop was normal so didn't worry about it too much. Yesterday was perfectly normal in every way. This morning I get up, he poops normally. I go to feed him and he won't eat. Everything else is completely normal. Maybe I'm being paranoid, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Hmmm that could be something not totally digested in his stomach...don't freak I don't mean lodged necessarily but I have had one of my dogs do this and then puke again and it was something small and indigestible they found in the yard and ate. Check your yard and house real good for anything chewed.
I just realized the age is weeks not months...has he been vaccinated recently? That can make them sick too. But I would not wait too long in case he does have something impassable in his gut somewhere. It could be fabric, piece of bone, a rawhide, greenie or other chew.
That can be very serious but I am hoping its just from some people food he ate or grass. If he eats and throws it right back up or acts in any abdominal pain, rush him to the vet. If he doesn't start eating soon or gets diarrhea, then call the vet and have them look at him, or you can call them now and ask what they think.
Better safe than sorry, hopefully its nothing. My dog pukes sometimes and freaks me out.

Was the vomit actual vomitus or more like frothy bile?
Is the poop real log shapes?
Is he energetic or lethargic?
Is he drinking normally?

At this point you dont have to be concerned-----but you have to aware, which you are.
A vomiting pup can be absolutely nothing, and he might be starved and fine tonite, or he might have a bowl obstruction,or be coming down with a viral infection. Most likely he ate something that he shouldn't have, and he'll be just fine soon.
Give him ice cubes in a bowl to lick and keep on eye on him.

Connie,
I didn't see the vomit, my wife did and I can't get in touch with her at the moment. Poop is perfectly normal log shapes. Twice so far today. He's otherwise acting perfectly normal, playing chewing, etc. Drinking normal. He did just eat a very small amount about an hour ago, but no where near what he normally does. An obstruction is what I was most worried about because he's constantly finding small rocks in the yard and I'm removing them from his mouth. I just hope one didn't slip by me or my wife.
Tresa,
Last vaccinations were right at two weeks ago, so I don't think that's it.

Well, log poops are a good sign, and so is drinking normally.
Dr. Betty's advice is exactly what I would be doing: being aware.

Update, Marco had two more normal poops yesterday, continued to drink and act normally but never ate. This morning he had a poop that the first half was normal then second half was loose/soft, but then he came in and ate normally. So I'm not sure what that means. That is, without question, the first even remotely soft poop he's ever had.

Sometimes when they do this, its a mystery...I have to make sure my dog doesn't indulge in clay...he'll mine for it...or pine cones. Small rocks are not good. I think eating grass can cause soft stools because often if Logan has one, there's grass or some other indigestible plant stuff in it. You could always grow that sprouted oats grass stuff for him in a pot...its not as irritating to the gut.

Learning comes with some risk, of GI upset, of obstruction, but in the end a pup learns what is food and what isn't.
Small stones can be trouble especially in pups fed kibble -- some seem to have a bit of a time learning the difference. Most kibble is swallowed whole, not chewed. Pea rock on the driveway can look pretty similar, especially around dinner time!

O.K. After the half loose half solid poop, he had a really loose one, then one loose, but not as loose, then he just had a solid one. It wasn't hardly anything but it was solid and he's now eating for the second time today, so I guess whatever it was seems to be passing. Thanks for all the help.
