I have been working with Sadha ( short for Sadhasivam) for the past 15 days. He is 96 days old today.
I am attaching this video of our work as a way of introducing my newest child to the leerburg pack.
There is nothing spectacular in this video, just me and my puppy doing normal basic puppy training.
More than the training itself, I enjoy the fact that he is such a loving, gentle, playful and forgiving puppy.
I used to train puppies almost 2.5 years back ( when my other dogs were babies). When I wanted to start with Sadha, I felt as if I had forgotten everything. I did not know where to start and how to train puppies.
Slowly I found my way back, and I have to admit that I have MELLOWED OUT BIG TIME. This time around, I find that I do not say harsh things to my puppy and I train based on his mood. I find it more relaxing and more pleasurable.
May be it is because, after I lost Kaiser the training seems not so important, may be I have gone soft in my head. What ever it is , I think it is for the better .
I look forward to your constructive criticisms on my training methods.
the dog will have a much easier time of recognizing a successful touch if you use something that is raised several inches off the floor .
add duration to the down with " good " , then reward . release from the down with " yes " , then movement with the delivery of the reward .
you will get more engagement with the dog if you deliver each piece of food personally rather than toss a bunch on the floor .
movement with the delivery of the reward adds drive , and thus , more value to the reward .
nice work on the recalls , but make more of an event out of the reward : movement and excitement and multiple treats . see how he goes to the other dogs right after your reward , try to hold his interest on you longer .
Yes, Both his mother and father are from Eastern Europe. They were so big I thought they looked almost ugly for a doberman. But I liked Sadha and I picked him even though he was not the biggest pup of the litter.
He is a really nice-looking pup! He has great focus on you and seems to have a calm demeanor. I think you're doing a great job with him. Thanks for sharing.
