For the last 2 months my boys have earned free run of the house when we are out for short time.
Dexter still goes to his crate or he will find a sunny spot on the first floor.
Harley will go to his crate some times but prefer the patio door at first. Then he started to move to the second floor bathroom in the morning, then my bedromm door, and now the floor by the bed.
Now in the last week he will come with me to the bedroom at bed time. He also started to go there when I am away. If I am in, he will go to the patio door or on the cool tiles.
Bed and couch are off limit.
I find it interesting to see how he slowly sneaked his way to the bedroom.
over the course of his life hector ( 9 1/2 yo BC ) has earned his spots around the house .
his latest foray has been onto our bed during the day if the house is empty . at this stage in life and point in career i am ok with that .
the peculiar part of it is that he will never go to the side of the bed that i sleep on . . . ever . at night he sleeps either directly below me or on a dog pillow on the floor at the foot of the bed . my wifes' not too crazy about the new arrangement but i tell her he's pre-heating the bed for her on those cold winter nights !
the other place he has adopted is my elder sons' room who only occupies it on weekends . there are two beds in there , and hector will only sleep on the one bob doesn't use .
actualy bed room, never been off limit, unlike feed room in the barn.
It is more the how he got there that I find strange.
He always lay on the bathmat when I am in the shower, he was often in the bed room when I was getting dress.
It is how he did not just moved to the bed room, like he was unsure or timid. The spca foster had him on the couch and in her bed for 2 months before I got him.
What do you do when you find him on the floor by the bed?
If your correcting that your only correcting for the dog being there. You have to correct for the dog when it's actually coming into the room.
It the same thing as coming home and correcting the dog when the trash is all over the place. All that teaches the dog is he's in deep $#!+ when you come home and find the trash on the floor. You have to correct when the dog is in the act of getting into the trash. Because of the time laps they don't put the two together.
It is interesting how a dogs perceived random acts may actually have a more significant meaning, sometimes. I'm curious, what was his body language when you found him in your bedroom on the floor for the first time?
Chee it is Harley, wiggly body happy face...wow you'r up can we play NOW. so I ask for a sit or down and also ask him to chill (calm command)
He neven been corrected but I have been neutral, bedroom is no play zone.
I ask for a calm sit or down so I can get out of the bed and that is about it.
