I feed raw, mostly. Sometimes I end up feeding what I bought for the dogs to my husband, or am not thinking ahead....anyway, like to have some sacked food on hand.
The last one I fed with regularity was Taste of the Wild, but had some trouble there and reverted to raw.
What sacked foods do raw feeders rely on, if any?
I don't feed raw, but the kibble I feel most comfortable with is Origin, with a small amount of Acana thrown in sometimes for a flavor change in the summer. We stay on the senior feed for the summer and it only comes in one flavor.
It's a really good question Dr. Betty.
I work in a small independent dog/ cat food store.
We really like Orijen, Horizon foods, both are Canadian companies that have very good standards and source their foods locally.
I think for me, in light of recent recalls, anything made at the Diamond plants is a no go, and I would look elsewhere. For me they have had one too many recalls and issues that should have been caught before it went out to consumers.
JMO, it shows a lack of testing and high standards that should be in place, since the whole melamine disaster.
For me personally, my go to food is the Honest Kitchen or Ziwi Peak for times when I need convenience.
There are some great freeze dried foods out there too, the only caveat is they are really pricey. But you can't beat the convenience.
I tried a few bags of ToW. Nikki started having major coat issues, Chance had a near-fatal flair-up of his fistulas. Other people in the local club have had allergy-type problems with ToW too. Nearly all have gone on to something else.
Orijen is really good. I recently tried Victor kibble and was quite pleased with the results - it's made by a small family company in Texas. Their grain free has good ingredients (USA sourced) and is about 1/2 the price of Orijen.

Their grain free has good ingredients (USA sourced) and is about 1/3 less than the price of Orijen. I think it's going to become my go-to kibble instead of Orijen because of the drastic difference in price (and the fact that I can support a local family feed store when I buy it)
where in Texas do you live? I'm moving back to Houston and would like to try it but TEXAS is a BIG state
I don't live in Texas, the food is made in Texas. It is distributed throughout several states. You can check out the website for distribution info http://www.victordogfood.com/
We used to feed raw to our dogs, but with so much stuff going on we decided to go back to kibble. We had been feeding Taste of the Wild, all the dogs loved it, but when we moved the price difference was outrageous per lb, so we found someone who sells a really good dog food that is great for sport and working dogs. The food is called Red Paw and it's been absolutely great. They have a website and everything and you can find a wholesaler in just about any state. We're in WY and lucky enough that we were able to find the guy who sells it. Our lab had been diagnosed (mis-diagnosed to be exact) with hypothyroidism. We started feeding him this food and cut back his pills, and he's bakc to the normal healthy dog he was before having to take those pills. His coat is back to the beautiful dark chocolate color it was before and he has energy. It's really good stuff.
