I am hoping someone can clear up some questions I have regarding the feeding amounts for the Honest Kitchen. I am currently feeding THK for my morning meal and TOTW for my evening meal, for both my working line shepherds.
Here is the recommended amount for my dogs, according to the box:
51-70 lbs
Highly active/Puppies
4 – 4 1/2 cups *Dry THK*
6 – 6 3/4 cups *Water*
They are "highly active".
My question is, is this correct?
When I rehydrate 1/2 cup of dry it makes almost 2 cups of hydrated food. If I were to feed them 4 cups, I would essentially be feeding them 16 cups of wet food a day(Assuming it was their complete diet). Even with feeding them kibble at night, I would still be feeding them 8 cups of THK a day! Not only could I not afford this, but I think my dogs would be completely overweight.
Right now they get 2 cups rehydrated THK morning and 3 cups of TOTW Lamb at night. My female is a *little* (3-5lbs) on the lean side, but always has been, and my male is ideal.
So has anyone who feeds THK found these recommendations to be completely out of whack, or am I doing something wrong?

How much do they actually weigh (like 51 or more like 69)?
"Highly Active" would not be most dogs, IMO. To me, that means dogs on the go all day long. (They are considering "highly active" to be the equivalent of being a growing puppy .... that would mean, for an adult, awfully darned active! JMO)
No puppies involved, right? (Or, actually, I mean "no growing dogs?")
I've never fed THK without the add-ins, which brings the amount of THK down quite a bit, but if I did, I would probably start with the "regular" instructions and see what happens.
Ironhide (2.5 year old female): 60lbs
Gladiator (14 month male): 78-80lbs (Last time I weighed 2 months ago he was 75lbs)
So Gladiator is still growing. I consider them "highly active" as they get an hour run in the morning, an hour run over lunch and 2 hours of classes per dog a night, 4 days week. Two days a week we go for larger runs of about 3 hours, then usually a one hour swim after. Mondays are our days off, so we just hang around the house.
