My sweet ,almost 8 month old boy, has been limping( right front leg sore) for almost a week.
Although my wonderful vet says he is 99% sure it is Pano, he told me if it is not gone in a week, we should make sure and do XRays.
Being a nervous mom(I can't relax not being sure) I whole heartedly agree!!
Our last GSD had it in all legs over a few months and wouldn't even eat at times.
This one, still eats (i.e.chow hound) and would probably run on three legs.
I haven't been able to get him out for walks or any training during this week. Will he regress? Up until this time, we went out every morning for walks basic OB etc.
I hope he will not be a zombie when I can take him again.
Just an addition; he is VERY LEAN,not skinny though, which my vet says is great for right now.

"Panosteitis is the long form for what breeders call "Pano.""
That quote is from Mr. Frawley, and his article: Panosteitis or PANO A treatment that has been successful with our own dogs
So, a new GSD in the house. Five months of age, started presenting with pano. Been through it with dogs over the years but decided to do a global search to see if I could get a set of brains.
Typed in 'dog, pano' and voila'... The article by Mr. Frawley is the first one listed. Mind you I was not on the Leerburg site. I was doing a search in the wide, wide world of the web.
Cutting to the chase: cut the pup's food intake by about 25% and the pano went away in about a week. It has not presented in any other leg.
But that's not my point... It is: this site - Leeburg - is a resource.
The little mutt is 60+ lbs., and turned 6 mos., last Monday. A really nice dog from a good kennel, and no pano. It is a good thing to follow Mr. Frawley's advice.
Thank you!"

First, I fully agree with all of Mike's post, and also want to say that if the vet is experienced, then "99% sure it's Pano" would make me secure in that diagnosis.
And the "very lean, skinny" part being applauded by the vet ...... this also would top off my feeling of assurance about that vet.

This happens to me all the time. Leerburg is a great resource.

Actually, I have utmost confidence in my vet. He told me not to ask anything of my dog just let him rest if he wants to. I understand all of that having been through it before.
But this is the first time I have put more effort into OB at an earlier age.
I just wondered how much regression there would be during this "layoff"?
