Other than appearance is there any major differences in working mals and dutchies? Researching the breeds, for future reference, and from what I can see and have read it seems there's little difference as long as they come from strong working lines? Both hyper, both very alert both eager to please? Is what I'm reading right? At the moment I haven't been able to find a direct informative comparison. Sorry if this has been done but I have searched the forum just may have missed it.
From what I understand they are basically the same dog. I know that many breeders that produce both Mals and Dutchies will simply call them a Dutch or a Mal depending on what the color of their coat is.
I'm sure this is all going to change in the future when the AKC officially begins recognizing the Dutch Shepherd as a breed (Currently they are in the Foundation Service Stock program).
But, this thread has a bunch of good information that you would find interesting:

They are NOT the same breed.
There are FCI Dutch Shepherds that have no Malinois in them. There are FCI Malinois that have no Dutch Shepherds in them. In fact the only time you'll find them being the same breed is the KNPV lines. KNPV consistently mixes Malinois with Dutch Shepherds and there they do choose breed depending on coat color.
But the Belgian, German and French bred Malinois generally are "purebred" and don't have any KNPV background.
Dutch Shepherds (even FCI ones) are generally bred towards KNPV competition and therefore are more adapted to that sport and its requirements temperament and build wise. You do not see very many KNPV dogs (Dutch Shepherd or Malinois) doing very well at many of the other bite sports. They are pretty much made for KNPV and do not succeed very far outside of that sport.
Granted, I don't like KNPV dogs. I like the Belgian and French line Malinois.
Thanks Katie, it was more the temperament I was thinking about and the differences in them and like others have said in other threads it depends on the lines themselves. Is there a reason you don't like the KNPV dogs as the breeder I'm currently looking into breeds specifically KNPV dutchies and also breeds for our military and police over here.
