I've only had one female (Amber) and as much as I love her will probably go back to males. She's not moody I just don't feel that she wants the connection with me my males had, she's a bit more of a loner in some respects, definitely takes stuff more personally.
My animals are not "like" family, they ARE family.

That sounds like my male's behavior. My female is very steady & not at all moody...even in heat she is very solid & has a serious work ethic. If anything she is even more intense if in heat & when she is working on a decoy
My bindi does that. It takes FOREVER for her to find the right spot. We have trained her to go potty when we say go potty, she will, but it takes her quite a while to find just the right spot. And there better not be any wet grass or dirt for her little pupper booty to rest on, or going potty is out! ha!
