When I took over the care of this Catahoula she was ALWAYS ready to eat and made a lot of noise. She is exactly 1 year old . . . not a NEW puppy and certainly not an adult.
Now, she sort of eats - lackadaisical. She eats everything but no entusiasm. Also, she really has no definition between hips and ribs. She has plenty of energy (believe me, when we play and tug she is enthusiastic). Her poop is good and her nose is wet.
I'm thinking that I'm feeding her too much. Basically, it's twice what the other large dogs are getting. I read on the Forum that you should go by the way the dog looks.
Any advice?

Yes. Can you link us to pictures?
. One of the dog standing, with you standing over him to take the picture so we can see his body shape from above;
. One of the dog standing, with you kneeling to his side to take the picture so we can see his body's profile, and the tuck-up behind the rib cage, and the hips.

Hi, Connie . . . love this place.
I'll try to link - as soon as I figure out how to do that here.

I figured out how to upload picts to a website and link it. It's not very "pretty" but I think you can get the idea.
Let me know!

Well, I wouldn't have a heart attack over it, but yeah, a little less of her would be better in
my eyes.
For me, I'd want a bit more of a curve-in at the waistline in that top picture and more of a tuck-up behind the rib cage in pictures 2 and 3.

Thanks, Connie. I'm glad it's not an emergency! I think I'll cut back a little.

She's not bad but could stand a bit off. It's time to start reducing the amount you feed from Adolescent (teenage) proportions to adult proportions.
Beautiful dog, btw.

Elaine, thank you for your post. BTW, she's also fun and never lets me forget she wants my attention! The Catahoula is the state dog of Louisiana and as Don Abney says:
"You must be ready to teach and exercise a Catahoula. If not, he will eat your house. The Catahoula will not let you forget that you own a dog."
When my ex showed up with this puppy 9 months ago or so, I was at first shocked. Why? She is taking care of her mother with Alzheimer's and a friend who suffered a major stroke! Add a very "busy" puppy, too! So, I offered to dog-sit for awhile. That was months ago now. I don't know if she'll get her dog back! LOL
BTW, can you tell me how you get pictures to show in your signature? Do you just enter a URL. I love your picture.

Hey, Michael . . . "crazy eyes" is right! lol
She is always picking up sticks (and branches) to "enlist" me to play with her. I just have to laugh.
