Mercy really hated sitting when the ground was cold or wet. Even dewy grass turned her off. She'd hover her butt an inch or two above the uncomfortable surface. To be fair, she didn't have much hair back there. The buttock/back thigh area was almost bare. She didn't mind doing it if there was something she wanted from me like the ball. That dog's enthusiasm for things she lived for completely overrode any issues she had with her environment. Her pain/discomfort tolerance was extremely high if she wanted it to be.
River doesn't care. She'll sit in a puddle three inches deep if I tell her to, but she's not a fan of water. I think it's because she doesn't realize she's sitting in a puddle. She's a lot fluffier in the back. Today on our city walk it rained and the concrete and grass were soaked and I felt bad for asking her to sit but there were a few times that I needed to.
What about you? Do you feel bad when you tell your dog to sit in a puddle or if it's a short haired dog to sit on something cold? I especially feel bad for the boys with their dangly bits. I've seen many of them doing the hover.
Also, does anyone else's dog smell like shampoo after they've gotten rained on? She stinks like trash if she swims but fresh rain water does weird things. She hasn't had a bath in two months but it definitely smells like the puppy 'tear free' shampoo I use on her face.
Sadie doesn't like to sit or down where it's wet, yet she has no qualms about dashing through a mud puddle or trying to leap over a filled ditch that she has failed to clear in the past.
The only time she's excused from OB commands is when she's wearing her heat diaper, which pinches the insides of her thighs.
She gets busy eradicating the shampoo smell as soon as the bath is over.
fist nice smell, won't last here we like barn smell best
For Dexter to go on wet/cold footing is hard he will take the very long detour to avoid getting wet. Yet he will obey very slowly and WHINE the whole time if you ask him.
Harley just does not care but will be slower.
On the other hand I am very allergic to house chores so I tend to avoid getting the dogs too dirty or wet!
