I just got back from Gunners yearly vet check-up. I asked about a titer test to see if getting another rabies vaccine was necessary, the vet told me even if he gets a titer test he will still be required to get the shot, one or three year one. That didn't make much since to me seeing if he did take the test and passed then why would he need another rabies shot?? We live in Georgia.
The rabies vaccines are state mandated. Many states now have rabies exemption laws in place. If you state has it then you have to have your vet file the necessary paperwork to file/request for the exemption. With the appropriate grounds for the requested exemption. The exemption, if granted, is only good for a year & would need to be refiled for each year. I believe that a new titer is required each time also.
BUT....if you dog bites someone...I believe that all bets are off & they will still will quarantine your dog & possibly worse.
No Connie Gunner doesn't.
As far as I could find there is not an exemption law in Georgia, or my county, for rabies. I will just have to do the three year vax.

The states that do have medical exemptions for dogs, such as those with a history of serious adverse rabies-vax reactions, are these sixteen:
AL, CA, CO, CT, FL, IL, MA, ME, MD, NH, NJ, NV, NY, OR, VT, VA, WI
If your state is not one of them (the O.P.'s is not) then I'd work to help open that door.
One way is to support the Rabies Challenge Fund. They are working to provide more medical exemptions for unhealthy animals, as well as the work they have already helped to accomplish (the state-by-state changes from 1-year to 3-year requirements) and the goal of a 5- and then a 7-year protocol.

Thank you for that link Connie. Sometime this year or next I may be getting my own place, if so I will "adopt" Gunner from my parents and take him to a homeopathic or holistic vet, the vet we currently go to are not very open about anything other than "the norm" if you know what I mean.
