He will be my new show Pom, and potentially a breeding male, depending on how he grows out. He is not built athletically like Cream Puff, so I don't imagine he will be an agility star! But we may do some competition OB and Rally'O.
Right now he is AMAZING!
He was shipped Wednesday from Chicago to Vancouver, picked up by a breeder friend (who has 10 Poms!!), brought to her house overnight, then brought back to the airport and put on the last flight to me.
This little guy came out of the crate raring to go and with no fear at all!! I took him for a walk, he was biting flowers, running around "super fast", AND he was crated for 6 hours total between drop off, flight, and pick up and didn't mess his crate!! Just an amazingly confident boy!
He is 14 weeks and HOUSETRAINED!! You read that right, first thing when I brought him home, he marched to the backdoor and asked to be let out. He went to the bathroom, then came right back in.
THIS is a dream Pom. Healthy, AMAZING temperament, great structure AND no tear stains to boot! I am expecting great things from him!
*Also, when I brought him home, my husband said sarcastically "don't bring him over here, I don't want to look at the drain my money went down." So I asked him to hold Ricky Bobby while I went outside to let the other dogs in, when I came back they were sitting on the couch together with my husband taking pictures and video...LOL

He's adorable! Wonderful to hear that the temperament is solid. I like the name. I'm attending a mechanic school and one of the instructors calls overly aggressive drivers "wannabe Ricky Bobby".
Have you decided on a call name yet?

Hey Cathy!
I am so hard to please when it comes to these little dogs, because people are too quick to say they are breedworthy based on cuteness, coat and color alone, I am just getting started with these little guys, but my priorities will not shift and remain HEALTH 1st, Temperament 2nd, and conformation 3rd (Although really 1 & 2 go hand in hand so could be considered 0.5 and 0.5...LOL)
His registered name is Kartellas Talladega Nights....so that leaves Ricky Bobby as his call name LOL
It is pretty hilarious to call him while we are out walking - everyone chuckles when they hear it!

Oh my cuteness! He is definitely a looker! It is awesome that he has the health and personality that needs to be put back in these little guys!

These are great little dogs, a mini sled dog, hi energy, full of beans. I think folks get into trouble with them when they are given no exercise and expected to be happy doing nothing but looking cute. I remember them from practice as having better teeth than a lot of itty bitties and better health.
I'm hopelessly out of date so the breed may have changed. They do seem to be much smaller than they used to be.

They used to be bigger?
Niomi, I love the name, too!

Yes Betty, EXACTLY! People always say they love little dogs because you don't need to exercise them. Hunh? Mine walk with the big dogs everyday, and will often join us for our 3 hour hikes through the bush (season dependent because of "wildlife"). I just don't get it, yes you probably don't HAVE to walk them - you don't HAVE to walk any dog. But if you want a well behaved little dog, you treat them like a big dog.
I went with this breed because I LOVE their temperament and the little sassy attitudes they have. I also found overall, that they had fewer health problems than a lot of the other small breeds. I do see that changing though, even since I purchased my first Pom last year - more and more breeding for exotic colors, or even top show breeders skimping on the health testing because there is most likely something to hide.
Betty, I am certain they did used to be bigger, as the brood females that most show breeders will use are in the 8-9 lb range, except that is out of the standard, so those are not the dogs they are showing. So they breed the tiny males 3 - 4 lbs to the bigger females to get dogs within the standard. The smaller the dog, the less likely they will free whelp, and the more likely to have health issues. They keep wanting these dogs smaller - isn't 5 lbs small enough?? Needless to say, I am not out to produce the "tiny" Poms, but the healthy, balanced, great temperament and within the standard Poms.
Oh! And while I was in Europe, I got to meet a few Poms from Kiev and let me tell you, they were no 5 lbs!
