Totally agree Connie, I've seen it firsthand, seen kids and adults, and other animals with horrible bites and whether as owners we can rationalize it or not, provoked or not, the fact is as far as our pets go the onus is always on us to use foresight as much as possible to prevent an incident. Truth is the dog is the one who will pay the ultimate price.
My animals are not "like" family, they ARE family.
-- Exactly as in practicing "defensive driving" habits in traffic, we have to use "proactive protocol" in the handling & management of our own DOGS around Others ... I would go so far as to say this is even More True for those of us who own breeds which the powers-that-be Irrationally Blame for any & every Incident of Aggression, irrespective of HOW WELL our own dogs actually are Contained & Controled.
This is a frequent topic at our SchH club... we are constantly reminding each other and our guests about the stigmas that come with our respective breeds, and that we will be considered the "bad guys" in any incident, regardless of what actually occurs. We have Canes, Boerboels, Rotts, GSDs, Mals, and a third generation Pit Bull breeder.

Our club, too.
I'm hoping that we could maybe start a thread about the ways we've learned to be proactive in our management .... how we can avoid the bad outcomes that brainless "other" people can otherwise trigger.
